Those who know me know some of the highs and lows that have been part of these past months. Before, during, and after nearly four months in the hospital and my LVAD surgery, I have struggled—emotionally and at times physically—with my own experiences of grief and loss.
I have always loved telling stories. During this season, I found myself rummaging through my mind for stories, memories, and words that might help me make sense of what I was experiencing.
Writing became therapeutic for me.
And somewhere along the way, what began as a way of finding my own footing became anotherway I might accompany children, families, and adults through some of life's difficult places—grief, loss, waiting, self-doubt, remembrance, love, and hope.
That journey has now resulted in four published children's books.
Allow me to introduce you to Luma and The Frog Who Learned She Was Enough along with a preview of two forthcoming projects: Luma: The Trilogy and Through the Valley: A Journey Through Grief, Loss, and Healing.
The four individual children's books are currently available on Amazon, with the trilogy and Through the Valley coming soon.
Wherever You Are in the Journey
If you or someone you love is grieving, I hope one of these books offers understanding, reassurance, and a little light for the next step.
Luma: The Angel Who Shined Anyway
A gentle story about feeling overlooked, discovering your worth, and learning that you can still shine right where you are. When Luma does not end up where she expected, she discovers that being overlooked does not mean being unimportant. A helpful conversation starter for: disappointment, belonging, change, confidence, and feeling unseen.

When someone we love is sick or away, waiting can feel very long. Luma offers reassurance about uncertainty, separation, and hope. The house grows quiet while Grandpa is away, and Luma hears unfamiliar words such as “hospital” and “come home soon.” A helpful conversation starter for: illness, hospitalization, temporary separation, uncertainty, and waiting for someone we love.
A tender story about grief, remembrance, and the ways love can remain part of our lives after goodbye. Through memories, stories, traditions, and kindness, Luma explores how our bonds with those we love can continue after a loss. A helpful conversation starter for: death, grief, remembrance, continuing bonds, and the reassurance that love still matters.
The Frog Who Learned She Was Enough
A little frog who worries she must always be wonderful learns that she does not have to be perfect to be loved—or to be enough. A warm story about anxiety, expectations, self-worth, and emotional resilience. It belongs naturally beside grief conversations because loss can unsettle a child ’s sense of safety and identity. A helpful conversation starter for: perfectionism, worry, confidence, self-worth, and learning that love does not have to be earned.
A compassionate companion for adults walking through grief—and for those who walk beside them. Drawing on decades of counseling, pastoral care, grief work, professional literature, and personal experience, Through the Valley approaches grief not as a problem to solve, but as a human experience to accompany. Its invitation is not to forget or “move on,” but to learn how to carry love, memory, meaning, and life forward.
